Bromo, busride and Bali!

So after another bus ride, we arrived in a small village near Mt Bromo and managed to nick someone else's room! We only paid for an economy room with a shared bathroom but instead we got put in a very posh room with its own bathroom (which was a novelty for us). We could hear some pure bugger complaining that they had to stay in our shit room whilst paying more money! Get in!

We had to wake up at 3.30 to start climbing Volcano Bromo at 4am! We again didn't get much sleep because it was bloody freezing (we had to sleep in our leggings and everything. The bus took us so far then we had to walk 4km and 353 steps to the top just in time to see the sunrise. It was cold, dark (we were not clever enough to take a tourch!) and in the middle of a desert. We were knackered but it was cool. We didn't have the bus on the way back to had to walk the whole 7k back to the hotel. We are still aching now!

After some free breakfast we had another 8hr bus ride to Bali. We were on a massive coach that was so full people had to sit on stools in the isle (luckily we got a proper seat) not nice. We arrived in Denapsar where we shared a taxi to the middle of town. The place where the other girls were staying wad to expensive for us so we decided to walk to the cheaper places. What a mistake! It was a bloody long walk with our 16kg backpacks and it seemed like we were not getting anywhere. We finally got to a smaller place with some cheap hostels. All the hostels in Indonesia seem to be down small dark alleyways which are not fun at 11pm. We were unlucky with all the places down the alley we chose so we were walking back up it, only to be chased by three scary looking dogs. They had us up against the wall whilst we pissed our pants! I remembered (from my other bad dog experience in Thailand with JT) if you bark back at them they get scared(that boy has some useful knowledge sometimes). This worked only for us to be confronted by two more even scarier looking dogs at the other end of the ally. At this point our pants were almost wet so we did the one thing you really shouldn't do and RAN as fast as we could and jumped into a taxi. The taxi took us to Kuta which is full of backpackers (even if it is a little like Blackpool with more sun!) Karma came back at us for stealing the nice room in Bromo and we could not find anywhere to stay and the people would not let is stay in their lobby for the night like the friendly people in Thailand did. By this time is was midnight and we were severly pissed off so we had no choice but to pay for an overpriced fancy arse hotel.

We took full advantage of the air con, hot shower, free shampoo, soap and toilet roll! We were having a lovely nights sleep which was ruined by a huge bang closely followed by the entire room shaking and a loss of electricity!

Anyway, after our dramatic night we spent the day chilling at the hotel pool (we were taking full advantage of everything at this place!!) and went to the beach, which is not unlike the beach at Magaluff! And we found a cheaper hostel which is very nice...if you dont mind a cockroach or two.

Whilst on our way home we from the beach we stopped at circle K to get a drink and a packet of crisps, only to find that a packet of Doritos cost $150HK!!! That cant be right, we thought, so we went to the exchange place to check the rate, to find that we had in fact spent the past week accidently multiplying everything by 3. So when we thought that we had spent $50HK on a plate of boiled rice, turns out it was only $15HK. So we can now afford to eat more that one bowl of rice a day, what a bonus!!!

Now that we've worked out that everything is actually cheap, we are going to make the most of the cheap beers...

xxx Sorry for the lack of photos, the internet is crap here! xx

Blimey you two I don't think I can cope with reading this site anymore, very amusing as your entries are, my hairline cannot take any more grey hairs.

I will have to take up a bad habit to calm my nerves, something like smoking (never!!), nail biting (yuk!!) oh well will have to be more red wine then!!

Please take care and stay out of dark alleys and away from wild animals (of all varieties).

Love

Mum Mc

I gotta say, i dont think barking at a pack of dogs would have been the best route out of that situation. I will talk to JT and find out why he nearly got you killed :)

I agree with mummy mc, you two are a little bit of a disaster...

love you lots

Just a thought Laura - did you have that rabies vaccine that you apparently won't need because - and I quote - "I won't be going near any wild dogs"

Lots of love
